Social media influencer is currently a multi-billion dollar industry. It has become a popular trend in the past years. This pushed thousands of people to make this as a profession and encourage companies to invest a huge amount of money in promoting their product through them. However, a big part of it goes to fraud as scamming became a terrible destruction to this. Here are a few reasons that marketers should be aware of before investing:
1. Fake followers and paid bots
Purchased fake followers and bots have brought reputations crashing down. The possibility to buy fake followers and pay bots to like or comment on a particular post gives a very disappointing impression for marketers to work with social media influencers. Therefore, it is advised for marketers that venturing to this marketing strategy must need proper scrutiny on how reliable the figures are.
2. Counterfeit content
Since this is now more of a business rather than a helpful platform for valuable information, there is already a possibility that the product partnerships endorsement content is forged. Nevertheless, there is still an enormous number of influencers who remained to keep their credibility and maintained a high-quality online reputation.
3. Misleading messages
Not everything that we can see in social media is authentic. As a marketer and as a consumer, we must be very careful and wise enough to scrutinize how trustworthy are the people that we are looking up to as stars of advertising. Otherwise, audiences will reap off a deceptive information towards brands or products.
4. Infidelity
Influencer marketing will not just be about who has the biggest reach but who are your passionate audience and how are these customers advocating your brand. Loyalty to the brand still remains as an important tool to engage. It is unfortunate that a mistake on published content may cause one's credibility and trustworthiness.
