The music industry is all about talent and royalties. A musician’s most important achievement is making it in the music industry. But what exactly does that mean? Read more below to find out.
A music producer is obviously a composer but does not only produce music. The artist also thinks about marketing related aspects in order to penetrate the music market. Every musician’s dream is to make it in the music industry; meaning performing at concerts, reaching millions of streams, selling physical copies of their music and also creating a name for themselves. An artist doesn’t just make music but should focus on what message he/she wants to spread, and how to do so. An example of this is musician NF. He writes music about his life experiences, and whenever he feels the urge to express something, he does so with his music. Not only does he enjoy making music or the fact that he can express himself within his music, he helps others by forming a relationship with them through the use of his emotional lyrics and melodic compositions.
As a musician, you should be fully focused on creating more and more music. As an example from myself “Piece Wise,” I have released a total of around 15 tracks. My audience assumes that these tracks are the only projects I have worked on, but I can guarantee you that I have around 70 projects that are unreleased. Over the last year, I have been focusing on creating my own sound, which is insanely hard to accomplish. By doing so, I decided to take down all of my music, and start from scratch. This has been a huge step for me as an artist, since I wanted to focus on rebranding not only my sound, but also my image and message which I want to share with the world. I have been forming a good relationship with the record label Loudkult, and am positioned as one of their priority artists. This gives me so much more motivation to create and release new music. In fact, I have about 5 new tracks being released and worked on (which will be released on Loudkult).
One of the most important aspects within the music industry is to build a network. This means reaching out to other musicians within your category & size. This helps form a community that supports each other, which eventually makes it easier to not only spread the word, but get recognized by bigger artists or even record labels.
Over the last year (since I fully focused on rebranding my sound & name), I have received a lot of proposals from artists and record labels, which also drives me to work even harder than I already do. It is every musician’s dream to make a living off of music, and this is how I strive to live my life. One of my greatest motivations is finding new music, and growing my Spotify playlists. This way I am able to curate a musical mix which can also influence the type of music I make. At the same time, people reach out to me as an artist asking to be supported in my playlists.
The music industry can be dark due to the fact that it only revolves around money, but finding the right people to help you grow is definitely possible. Check back next week to find out more!
