Editing your pictures, judging others, tagging your friends, liking posts and watching stories. On average we all consume 136 minutes per day of social media. We hear you say: That's alright, it's not that much... But think about it this way: This means that the average person is now spending 5 to 6 years of their life on social media. Is it really worth it?

To put it in better perspective: Next to spending the 5-6 years on social media, on average, a person spends only 1 year and three months on actually socializing with friends and family. SHOCK.

It is understandable to not immediately put your phone down and go talk to your mom because being active on social media has many benefits and is VERY addictive. Older generations simply do not understand the fuss. This has to do with the evolution of the socials in the past years. While the older generations actually had to go outside to interact with friends, you can now just stay in your room, hide under a pile of blankets and talk with 3000 friends at once. Technology at his best, I would say.

But how the millennial generation still seems to have an appreciation for other factors than online the smartphone, the generations Z seem to have completely pulled all the stops. Or actually, plugged-in all the plugs. They have never known a world without a computer, Wi-Fi connections, and cellphones, so we can't really blame them. Their age now spans from pre-schoolers to teenagers and they are digital integrators, having integrated technology seamlessly into their lives, and having used it from the youngest age; it is almost like the air that they breathe, permeating almost all areas of their lifestyle and relationships. They are the "Technoholics", as they entirely depend on IT.

The way social media is influencing the life of Generation Z, Generation Z is also determining the future of social media. Generation Z is way more focussed on consuming visual, moving, entertaining content on social media and prefers modern and new platforms. The old figurehead of social media, Facebook, is not popular among this generation. They are facing a dark future, as this generation is set to 'kill Facebook'. Other platforms like Snapchat, Instagram, YouTube, and newcomer TikTok seems to be more popular than ever. These platforms seem to have a long and bright future. Until the next generation of social media zombies will be born of course.

What the far future holds is always uncertain. Social media consumption will keep growing in the upcoming social-media zombie generations, but if after all, it still will be considered 'social' is still the question.
