This week we are taking a look at free games that are worth playing. Some of these games have paid features such as skins for your characters or quirks, but most of them rely on skill in order to beat your opponents.
1.League of Legends

League of Legends is a free to play massively multiplayer online battle arena game developed by Riot Games. The game features 145 playable characters as of this year. These characters range from squishy range combatants to tough bruisers which can take a lot of damage. There is a lot of gameplay variety as each champion has his own strengths and weaknesses.
The development team of the game is very active and they keep adding more champions each year. The game is set in an imaginary world in which three factions compete for territories for the world. However instead of fighting among themselves and losing many lives in wars, instead these factions have gathered their best magicians and have created a magical tournament game called the League of Legends. Champions from the three continents come together to compete for their own causes or for the cause of their region.

That's for the backstory. The game itself has three modes 5v5, 3v3 and Aram. In addition to these modes, the game also has weekly rotating modes that are unique and new ones are always being added. The three non-rotating modes can be played both competitively and casually. You can also customize your champion with skins and trinkets which can be purchased or won through playing special in-game events. The game also has an enormous fan base and tournaments are held with cash prices and pro gamers can make it really big. This game is definitely worth a try.
2.Counter Strike Global Offensive

Counter Strike Global Offensive is a multiplayer first-person shooter game developed by Hidden Path and Valve Entertainment. The game features countless maps made by players and by the company itself. In these maps, players align themselves with either the terrorist faction or the counter-terrorist faction and face each other in rounds of 7 to determine the winner. Each faction has unique weapons with their own benefits and drawbacks. The other difference between the factions is that terrorists can also win the round by planting a bomb, while the counter-terrorists can win it by defusing the bomb. Each round lasts one minute and fifty-five seconds, so players are really on the edge when they are forced to be quick and shoot each other.

The game has a steep learning curve, however, learning to play is rewarding and you can have your own style of play. Both competitive and casual play is rewarding and you can rank up your account and get rewards such as skins for your weapons. All in all a great game to play solo or with your buddies.
3.War Thunder

Have you wanted to experience the battlefield of the World War? Is flying an airship, a helicopter or driving a tank something you have dreamed of while being a kid? Well then maybe War Thunder is for you.

The game features seven nations from both world wars and realistic air and ground combat mechanics. You can upgrade your tanks and through research progress through the ranks and become powerful. The developers have made the combat as realistic as possible with hitpoints and weaknesses they researched about every vehicle and how it was used in real life. In addition to the realistic mode of battle featuring battles of 32 players fighting an enormous battle, there is also a PVE Mode in which players defend against ai, custom battles and simulator battles which let players experience what it would be like if they piloted in first person. If all this sounds exciting to you give this gem a spin!
4.Smite

Smite takes inspiration from the other battle arena games, but with a twist, instead of having the characters fight from the top-down perspective, we have the third person boots on the ground experience. In this multiplayer experience, players get to choose from a rooster of gods and duke it our in arenas versus other players or AI. The gods themselves are taken from different mythologies from all around the world. As you play the game you earn tokens and experience which can be used to buy skins and customizations for your characters.
The game has 8 modes to choose from, which gives a lot of variety to the classic battle arena style. If you like ancient mythology and want to experience it in 3d I would definitely get into this game.
5.DC Universe Online

Do you like Batman and Superman? Are you a fan of superheroes beating the bad guys and saving the day? Well then DC Universe might be for you. Set in the fictional universe of the DC comics, the game lets you make your own character and choose whether to be a hero or a villain. Both, however, are fighting to prevent the end of existence. Afterward, you can choose between several powers and being mentored by one of the characters of your Affiliation. After the tutorial segment, you can play with friends and together save the world. There is also the option of fighting players in the PVP mode.
So what are you waiting for? Come and become the hero you dream to be!
