Virtual reality has come into the scope of hype ever since the technology was released in 2010 under the Oculus Rift brand. Ever since it has become a niche market for gaming enthusiasts it has been trying to catch on with the other gaming platforms and become mainstream. Using this technology one can experience realistic virtual worlds and immerse himself into them. It symbolizes one of the main staples of gaming, getting lost in the game as if its real-life, entertaining you and helping you live out your wildest fantasies.
However, the industry has had a rough patch because buying a headset is expensive and you also need to own a high-quality pc in order to run the hardware. A headset alone comes up at 1000 dollars and the pc is usually at the same price or above this means that only people with money to spare can afford the technology. However, focusing on the high-end consumers is also one of the strengths of big VR brands such as HTC-Vive and Oculus Rift. They get a lot of hype and big brands pay attention to them, in turn, rolling the ball so that the technology can progress and eventually become affordable.
Virtual reality games have a lot of genres, some of the most popular ones are first-person games, in which you are the main character interacting with the virtual world. The main player uses virtual reality controllers in order to control his arms in the game and get immersed in the experience.
Some examples of VR:

In spite of these difficulties VR has big players such as Google backing it up and they have teamed up with HTC Vive in order to produce WorldSense, a headset which is standalone and doesn't require a pc to function. This headset is planned to be plug and play, which will greatly convenience the customers and lower the price so that more people can buy into it and get the VR ball rolling.
I think a bright future awaits VR and I hope Google and the big tech giants succeed in bringing the dream of the virtual world to the everyday consumer. Tune in next time as we take a look at another piece in the future of gaming!
